Since 2007, founding Music Director, John Piazza Jr. and present Music Director, Dr. Mike Dubaniewicz, have turned our intimate little space into the best jazz club in Central New York and a go-to destination for jazz musicians who love our appreciative audience. Trumpet great Joe Mags Magnarelli called it “One of the hippest little rooms on earth.” The list of big-city guest artists who have played The Other Side, many of them prestigious poll and Grammy award winners, includes such legends as Harold Mabern, Orrin Evans, Jane Monheit, Victor Lewis, Scott Robinson, Gary Smulyan, Warren Smith, Akiko Tsuruga, Jimmy Wormworth, Ingrid Jensen, Walt Weiskopf, and Ralph Lalama to name but a few. In addition Jazz at The Other Side has provided good-paying fun gigs for hundreds of our great Upstate cats including Rick Montalbano, Jimmy Johns, Mike Cortese, Andrew Carroll, Joe Carello, and Tom Brigandi, again to name but a few. From our alumni list an all-star big band could be built that would rival today’s very best. Jazz at The Other Side is magic. ---------------------- The Other Side in Utica, NY is a small community space dedicated to offering a platform for expression to artists and activists from around the region and beyond. We've hosted many exceptional events over the years, including concerts in our legendary jazz series, openings for our world-class art gallery, lectures, classes, and so much more.
